In Indian cricket, the “Gabbar era” is over. At the age of 38, Shikhar Dhawan has bid farewell to both the domestic and international circuits. On Saturday, August 24, the former opening batter made his decision known with a video message. From 2013 till 2018, Dhawan, who is renowned for his daring batting, was an important part of India’s white-ball squad. Under MS Dhoni’s leadership, India won the 2013 Champions Trophy, and he finished as the leading scorer with 363 runs. In addition, Dhawan scored the most runs throughout the 2015 ODI World Cup. He was known as “Mr. ICC,” a moniker he acquired for his dependable performance in important tournaments.
When Shikhar Dhawan played in an ODI match against Bangladesh at Chattogram in December 2022, he was last seen donning the Blue jersey. His career was particularly problematic in its latter stages because of recurrent injuries. The captain of the Punjab Kings suffered a shoulder injury during a home game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, which caused him to miss the most of the previous Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
He remarked, “Countless memories and gratitude accompany me as I close this chapter of my cricketing journey.” I appreciate all of your kindness and help. “Jai Hind!”
Many cricket fans honored Dhawan with social media tributes after learning of his retirement. Best wishes were also sent by his former Indian teammates for the second half of his life.
A sincere message for Dhawan was shared on Instagram by Suresh Raina, who was also a member of the team that won the Champions Trophy in 2013. “Brother, having you in the changing room was a true pleasure. I hope that all of your future endeavors turn out well. The mythology of the Chennai Super Kings wrote, “Onward and upward.”
