Joshua Kimmich praises Vincent Kompany impact as Bayern Munich kick off contract negotiations with German

Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich has been impressed by the influence Vincent Kompany has had, as discussions about a new contract get underway.

Bayern Munich concluded their Asian tour with a 2-1 victory over Tottenham, finishing the tour with an unbeaten record under new head coach Vincent Kompany. Kimmich played a crucial role in the team’s strong performance and lauded his manager afterward. The 29-year-old midfielder may also be in line for a new contract as the new season approaches, with sporting director Max Eberl confirming that preliminary talks have already taken place.

Commenting on Kompany, Kimmich remarked: “You could already see his influence. It was enjoyable for the fans, with both teams engaging in attacking play and pressing individually. I’m eager for the new season and we have ambitious goals to pursue together.”

Eberl also addressed the possibility of a new contract for Kimmich, stating: “The conversation was very positive and productive. We will continue discussions. I believe the general perception in Germany doesn’t fully appreciate him. Joshua has been a crucial player for FC Bayern for many years and should remain so in the future.”

Securing a new contract for Kimmich would be a significant boost for Kompany as he aims to reclaim the Bundesliga title with Bayern. The 91-cap international is entering the last year of his current contract with Munich but continues to be a vital member of the squad in this new phase.

Bayern Munich will play against Tottenham once more before starting their new domestic season. The Bavarian club is set to visit north London on Saturday, August 10, for another friendly, which might see Harry Kane return to face his former team.
