La Liga 2024-25: Barca manager Flick delighted with Lewandowski’s

After his double, Lewandowski’s third goal in two games helped Barcelona come back from behind 2-1 against Valencia last weekend.

After Robert Lewandowski, the captain of Poland, scored the game-winning goal in the second half to lead Barcelona to a hard-fought 2-1 La Liga victory over Athletic Bilbao on Saturday, manager Hansi Flick showered the striker with adulation.

After his double, Lewandowski’s third goal in two games helped Barca come back from behind 2-1 against Valencia last Saturday.

“I think Robert (Lewandowski) hasn’t gone back to form because that’s how I have always seen him as a player, and I know him really well,” Flick said to DAZN.

Lewandowski scored 83 goals in 71 games while playing for Bayern Munich under Flick’s direction in the 2019–20 and 2020–21 seasons, winning multiple major championships, including the 2020 Champions League.

“I’m pleased with him because he not only scores goals, but also puts forth a team effort and dedicates himself to pressing high and efficiently,” Flick remarked.

“He’s 100% in terms of physicality. He is a true professional who places a high value on physical health. We witnessed his ability to handle pressure following the second-half equalizer. He is a fantastic athlete.

Raphinha, a Brazilian winger, was also praised by Flick for his performance as an offensive midfielder.

“Rafa is capable of playing in any offensive role. He is an excellent presser and can play as a 10 or swap positions. Since we are currently lacking a few players, we needed someone like him, according to Flick.

Due to injury and a recent signing, Gavi, Ronald Araujo, and Frenkie De Jong are all out. Because Barca violated the Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations, Dani Olmo is still not registered with La Liga.

“Given the circumstances and two victories against such formidable opponents, I have to be extremely pleased,” Flick remarked.

“We don’t have to disregard things we can’t control, like injuries and players who are unable to play. We’re playing great defensively,” Flick remarked.
