The American League claimed victory for the 17th time in the last 21 All-Star Games, winning at the Texas Rangers’ home stadium—the first defending World Series champion to host the event since the 1939 Yankees. Globe Life Field, a four-year-old venue that has already hosted two World Series, two no-hitters, and Aaron Judge’s record-breaking home run, was more than capable of accommodating the All-Stars and a vibrant crowd of 39,343.
The game lasted just two hours and 28 minutes, making it the shortest All-Star Game since 1988, which took 2:26.
The All-Star Game began with a Texas-themed celebration, featuring baseball legends Adrian Beltré, Pudge Rodriguez, Nolan Ryan, and Fergie Jenkins. The game’s starter, Corbin Burnes, successfully pitched a scoreless first inning for the American League. However, the real excitement was yet to come.
Paul Skenes, a rookie pitcher and the first overall draft pick to reach the All-Star Game in his first year, took the mound for the National League. This was a historic moment, as he became only the fifth rookie to start a Midsummer Classic. With his powerful fastball and unique splinker pitch, Skenes quickly retired the first two batters. However, he walked Juan Soto, setting the stage for a highly anticipated showdown with Aaron Judge.
The game started quickly as the powerful pitcher easily struck out the opposing batter on the first pitch. With that, the National League’s turn to bat began. During the third inning, Aaron Judge commented on the TV broadcast about Shohei Ohtani’s impressive performance while recovering from an elbow injury. Ohtani then hit a home run, becoming the first player to win a pitching game and hit a home run in the All-Star Game. This put the National League ahead by three runs.
The American League fought back in the bottom of the third inning against the Giants’ pitcher. Juan Soto got on base and advanced to second base, scoring two runs. David Fry, unexpectedly playing in the All-Star Game, hit a single to tie the game.
The game remained tied after the top of the fifth inning due to a strong pitching performance by Mason Miller, who threw an incredibly fast pitch. In the bottom of the inning, the American League took the lead. Anthony Santander got on base, and Alex Cora hit a home run to put the American League ahead by two runs. The American League’s pitchers held the National League scoreless for the rest of the game.
