Nikkei Asia said that Hanyu’s transition to the professional ranks in 2022 signaled the “end of an era” for figure skating competitions. His first significant professional endeavor is the ongoing Yuzuru Hanyu Ice Story series, of which the Repray Tour (2023–24) is the first figure skating solo tour production, and its preliminary event Prologue (2022) is the first solo ice show. With an attendance of 35,000, his second solo concert Gift (2023) broke the record for the highest ice show audience. It was also the first ice skating event to be staged at Tokyo Dome. A new type of performing arts and entertainment was introduced by Hanyu’s Ice Story series, which drew over 100,000 viewers by February 2024. The series intertwines live skating performances with in-depth, philosophical storytelling.
