Phogat also asked for a shared silver in her appeal, citing her weight gain following her victory in the Paris semifinal.

Senior counsel Haris Salve decided to represent Vinesh Phogat in the Court of Arbitration for Sports on Thursday, marking a significant advancement in the athlete’s legal battle against her expulsion from the Olympics.

The Court of Arbitration for Sports’ hearing on the matter is now over. The final decision in the case was expected to be announced by the Court of Arbitration on Saturday at 6 p.m. Paris time (i.e., 9:30 p.m. IST). This has now been deferred to August 11.

Vinesh Phogat CAS Hearing: While expressing his condolences to Vinesh, UWW president Lalovic doubted that the outcome would alter because the UWW was merely abiding by the rules.


“I sincerely apologize for what transpired, but athletes are athletes regardless of the size of their nation. The results of this weigh-in were visible to all because it was public. Burroughs, who is regarded as one of the best freestyle wrestlers of all time, has won gold at the World Championship six times in the London 2012 Olympics.




“Perhaps stories like this will wake up the IOC,” he commented on X. It takes MORE than six weight divisions for wrestling! According to the IOA, “The ad hoc division of CAS has extended time for the Sole Arbitrator Hon. Dr Annabelle Bennett in the Vinesh Phogat vs. United World Wrestling & the International Olympic Committee matter to give a decision till 6-00 p.m. on August 13, 2024,” according to ANI.
