In response to the underwhelming performance of the Indian boxing team at the Olympics in Paris, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has declared that it is in the process of hiring a new foreign coach. The squad failed to return with any medals despite great hopes, which forced the federation to look for a new strategy for the upcoming Olympic cycle.
Call for Experienced Leadership
In an official announcement, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) detailed its criteria for the ideal candidate, stressing the need for a coach with high-level boxing credentials and a proven history of success internationally. “The Boxing Federation of India is looking for a foreign coach to lead its elite national team for the next four-year term,” the notice specified.
The new coach will be tasked with steering the team towards top performance in major tournaments, including the upcoming Olympic Games, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games. The BFI emphasized that the ideal candidate should have substantial experience with elite or youth national teams and be physically capable of demonstrating techniques to the athletes.
Success Plan for the Next Four Years: Boxing Federation of India
With the goal of building a strong squad that can compete in the forthcoming Olympics and take home gold, the BFI is offering a four-year contract to the selected coach. This choice was made in response to major coaching staff alterations following the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Two of the first people to depart in 2022 were the high-performance directors for women, Raffaele Bergamasco, and men, Santiago Nieva. Before leaving in June 2023, Bhaskar Bhatt was the women’s head coach for a brief period of time. Furthermore, the squad was left in a precarious situation when Bernard Dunne, who assumed the position of high-performance director in October 2022, resigned about four months prior to the Olympics in Paris.
