Ishan Kishan, an India wicketkeeper-batter, is all set to play in the forthcoming Duleep Trophy first round, marking his comeback to domestic red-ball cricket. He is going to be a member of the Shreyas Iyer-led squad D.
This would be Kishan’s first time participating in the Jharkhand Buchi Babu competition, which begins in Chennai on August 15 and is followed by the Duleep Trophy. Kishan had vanished from the national side and had lost his central contract after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) terminated it earlier in February.
After being absent from the team during the 2023 tour of South Africa, Kishan took a break from cricket.
Kishan ignored requests to play Ranji matches from the BCCI and former coach Rahul Dravid and refrained from taking part in domestic contests.
Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, has stated unequivocally that Kishan must play domestic matches if he wishes to rejoin the national team.
Shah recently stated, “He (Ishan Kishan) will have to follow the rules,” in an interview with Times of India. He must play cricket in his home country.”
Statistics show that in 2023, Kishan played in two Test matches, 17 ODIs, and 11 T20Is. He was also a member of the Indian team that advanced to the 2023 ODI World Cup final. When Shubman Gill was unwell, he participated in two matches at the top level.
Details of 2024’s Duleep Trophy:
The players have been split into four squads, with Shubman Gill, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Shreyas Lyer leading them. The matches are scheduled to start on September 5 at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy stadium in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh.
While there were rumors that veteran players could be chosen for the Duleep Trophy, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravichandran Ashwin were not chosen by the BCCI. Rinku Singh is not a member of the teams either.
